About Up North Productions
Up North Productions provides professional football filming and video production services for grassroots and non-league clubs across the North West of England.
Founded in 2017 by Stuart Bannerman, the aim was simple: give grassroots football the same style of coverage people enjoy watching on television. Inspired by programmes such as Match of the Day and the production quality seen in professional broadcasts, the goal was to bring that level of presentation to local football.
Today, Up North Productions specialises exclusively in filming football matches and producing TV-standard coverage for clubs, teams, and players at grassroots and non-league level.

How It Started
Up North Productions began with very basic equipment.
The first matches were filmed using a simple camcorder, a tripod borrowed from Stuart’s workplace, and basic editing software. At the time, there was no formal training, no course to follow, and no mentor to learn from.
Instead, Stuart taught himself how to film and edit football matches by studying professional broadcasts. Every week he would watch Match of the Day and Sky Sports coverage, making notes on camera positioning, pacing, highlights editing, and how football footage is structured for television.
Through constant practice and analysing how the professionals do it, those early experiments gradually developed into the professional workflow used today.
What started as a small side project filming a match at the college across the road from home quickly grew into a dedicated football filming business.
Specialist Football Filming
Before 2017, Stuart had worked on a range of video projects including promotional videos, boxing promos, marketing content, and press/media work.
However, after filming that first football match, it quickly became clear that football was the area to focus on.
Since then, Up North Productions has specialised purely in football filming, working with teams throughout grassroots and non-league football.
Over 250 matches have now been filmed, providing clubs and players with professional footage they can use for highlights, social media, tactical review, and player development.
Professional Equipment
Matches are filmed using professional equipment designed to capture the game clearly and consistently.
The filming setup includes a professional camcorder mounted on a Hi-Pod tower system which extends up to 15 feet in the air. This elevated position provides a wide and clear view of the pitch, similar to the angles used in professional broadcasts.
The footage is then edited into TV-standard match highlights, allowing clubs to showcase their matches online with a professional finish.
YouTube and Online Coverage
Up North Productions also runs a growing YouTube channel dedicated to grassroots and non-league football coverage.
The channel now has over 10,000 subscribers, with match highlights regularly viewed by players, fans, and clubs.
Reels from matches are also shared across social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, helping teams increase visibility and share key moments from their games.
Filming Beyond the North West
While the main focus is covering football across the North West of England, Up North Productions have also filmed matches further afield when opportunities arose.
Recent filming trips have included matches in Tenerife and Belfast, demonstrating how football coverage can travel beyond local leagues and reach wider audiences.
For most bookings, filming takes place within the North West region, although travel to other parts of the UK can sometimes be arranged.
Who We Work With
Up North Productions works with a wide range of teams and players involved in grassroots and non-league football, including:
-
Grassroots football clubs
-
Non-league teams
-
Sunday league teams
-
Youth football teams
-
Football academies
-
Schools and college teams
-
Individual players who need match footage for scholarships, analysis, or coursework
The aim is always the same: to provide clear, professional match footage that clubs and players can use in a variety of ways.
The Goal
The original goal when Up North Productions started was to give grassroots football something that felt similar to Match of the Day.
Today, that goal has evolved into providing TV-standard coverage for lower-league football, helping clubs and players present their matches professionally online.
Grassroots football deserves to be seen and shared, and high-quality footage makes that possible.
