Atherton LR made the short trip to The Bartons Group Stadium on Tuesday night to take on Ashton Town in an exciting derby day encounter. With both sides chasing promotion from the North West Counties First Division North it was the visitors who came away with all three points, thanks to first half goals from Cal Hunter, Lewis Rawsthorn and Alfie Walker.

2nd Minute:

Atherton LR start the game on the front foot and almost take the lead this right footed shot whistles wide of the target.




6th Minute: Ashton Town almost take the lead but Conor Reddy's right footed shot from 25 yards is brilliantly pushed wide by Atherton LR goalkeeper Joe Bickerstaffe!



11th Minute: A long ball over the top finds Lewis Rawsthorn and the Atherton LR number nine attempts to lob James McClenaghan, but the Ashton Town goalkeeper recovers well to make an outstanding save, pushing the ball away for a corner.




16th Minute: Alfie Walker cuts inside and is brought down in the area - penalty to Atherton LR!

17th Minute: GOAL 0-1 Atherton LR- Cal Hunter smashes the ball home, leaving McClenaghan with no chance, to give the visitors the lead!




19th Minute: GOAL 0-2 Atherton LR - Lewis Rawsthorn receives the ball on the edge of the box, skips away from Ashton Town centre back Michael Burke, and calmly places the ball past the keeper with his right foot to double his side's advantage!




25th Minute: Atherton LR's Cal Hunter gets the ball out on the right, cuts inside in the penalty area and lays it off to Alfie Walker on the edge of the box, but the wide man fires his shot just over the crossbar.



34th Minute: GOAL Ashton Town 0-3 Atherton LR - Alfie Walker makes it 3-0 with an expertly-taken freekick from 25 yards out!



42nd Minute: LIGHTS OUT - Brandon Dawson's back pass from near half way is cut out by Ashton Town's number 7, Ben Glendon. He takes the ball around the stranded goalkeeper Bickerstaffe, who had come off his line to try and receive the pass. However, just as the Ashton Town man seemed set to score, the floodlights go off, leaving the entire ground in complete darkness!



45th Minute: Ashton Town almost pull a goal back when Chris Lomax's high cross is met by centre forward George Lomax, but his header from six yards out rebounds off the crossbar. With the danger still not over, there was a half hearted appeal for a penalty when captain Sam Sheen went over theatrically inside the box, but the referee was having none of it!




48th Minute: Ashton Town come agonisingly close to pulling a goal back in the third minute of the second half when the ball was played in behind for Ben Glendon, but he pulled his shot wide, despite the best efforts of George Lomax trying to slide in at the back post.




50th Minute: Atherton LR try to counter attack from a corner but a foul on Lewis Rawsthron leads to 3 players receiving yellow cards, 2 of whom were sent to the sin bin, while Ashton Town's number 9 George Lomax was wrongfully booked! The referee did correct the error though, booking Chris Lomax and sending him to the sin bin!




54th Minute: Ashton Town appeal for a penalty when skipper Sam Sheen goes down in the box, but the referee waves play on!




65th Minute - Atherton LR's Lewis Rawsthron breaks forward and goes for goal from the edge of the box, but McClenaghan makes another fine save, pushing the ball away to safety.




68th Minute - Atherton LR go on the attack again, and despite a late challenge in the build up, they still managed get a shot away. Unfortunately for the visitors though, the effort was fired over the crossbar.




74th Minute: Somehow, Atherton LR don't score! Cal Hunter plays the ball across goal to his teammate but he sidefoots the ball over the crossbar from just 6 yards out!




88th Minute: A brilliant cross from the right is whipped in for the substitute to tap home, but he misses the target from just seven yards out.
